Nord Stream 2 sanctions receive initial go in US Senate

A US Senate committee has more or less unanimously passed a bill to sanction companies and individuals involved in the construction of gas pipeline Nord Stream 2. The bill will now undergo several votes before it can become law.

US President Donald Trump has for some time been airing the idea of punishing everyone involved with gas pipeline Nord Stream 2. The president holds that the planned pipeline from Russia to Germany will render the latter a hostage of Russia, and that the pipeline will altogether give Moscow too much power over Europe.
