Media: Norwegian oil sector aims for carbon-neutral extraction from 2050

On Monday, Equinor and other players on the Norwegian continental shelf presented a goal to cut 40 percent off emissions from upstream extraction in 2030 and then reach net-zero emissions from 2050. This will be achieved by, among other things, deploying floating offshore wind.

On Tuesday, Equinor and partners will officially inaugurate the Johan Sverdrup field. However, as a sneak peak for the opening of the enormous oil field, with an expected output surpassing 500,000 million barrels per day, the Norwegian oil giant along with the domestic sector's umbrella organization, Konkraft, announces a somewhat greener direction. As of 2050, the country's oil and gas upstream extraction will be climate neutral, report Norwegian media outlets E24 and VG.
