Danish fossil sector flaring emits four times more CO2 than Norway's

Unlike its neighbor, Norway, Denmark's fossil fuel sector's flaring emissions are on the rise. A worrisome development, says Copenhagen-based NGO Green Transition Denmark, which urges action. "We will never be able to match Norway's level," the Danish oil industry says.

Denmark's oil and gas extraction has declined markedly in recent years. In 2018, the domestic North Sea sector's output came to around 10 million Sm3 of oil equivalent, or 60 percent less than one decade ago. Nonetheless, more gas has been burned off from fossil fuel rigs in the form of flaring, relative to the level in 2009.
