Equinor drops controversial oil plans

In the wake of massive protests, the oil company withdraws from a project in Australian waters. It wasn't profitable, says Equinor, which still wants to prospect for crude in the country.

Plans to drill for oil in the Great Australian Bight are now scrapped. Equinor has informed Australian authorities of its decision to give up its planned exploratory drilling, Stromlo-1, in the sea off the Southern Australian coastal town of Ceduna, the oil company discloses in a press statement.
