Angela Merkel aims to coax SDP back into the government

After the collapse in recent government negotiations, German conservative party CDU is now hoping to convince social democrat Martin Schulz – who is currently at heads with the Siemens CEO – to enter into a renewed coalition.

Two months after the general election, Germany has still not formed a government. One week ago, negotiations collapsed for a coalition between CDU, the Greens and the liberal party FDP. It now seems that that there is a hope for a new constellation. However, new is a relative term, as conservative party CDU/CSU is now negotiating with the social democratic party SPD to renew the major coalition which has run the country since 2013.
