Forecast: UK to best case reach 43 GW of offshore wind by 2050
In the best case scenario, the UK will reach capacity of up to 43 GW offshore wind in 2050, according to prediction from network operator National Grid reported by industry media Recharge News. This would mark a significant increase from the current 6 GW.
The forecast is based on a scenario where the UK switches to a highly electrified economy with low CO2 emissions, which must be supported by renewable energy sources, storage and special appliance. The prediction is also based on increased demand from electric cars.
Across four forecasts taking into account different political and economic scenarios, National Grid estimates that wind capacity in the UK will grow, both onshore and offshore, writes Recharge News.
