European Commissioner to run for Slovakian presidency

EU Commissioner Maros Sefcovic has announced that he will be running as a candidate in Slovakia's presidential race. The 52-year old diplomat, who is one of the Commission's two vice presidents, has led efforts within the EU's Energy Union. His candidacy is supported by the country's ruling coalition party, center-right Smer. The Slovakian presidency is largely a ceremonial position.
