Leading EU Commission presidential candidate wants to block Nord Stream 2

The conservative European parliament group's candidate vying to preside over the EU Commission will use "all available legislation" to prevent the Russian gas pipeline from being installed.

The coming EU Commission might end up taking a more critical approach to Nord Stream 2. In any case, the conservative EPP group's leading candidate for the post of EU Commission president, MEP Manfred Weber (Christian Social Union in Bavaria, CSU), has declared himself a staunch opponent of the Russian gas pipeline, which he will attempt to block if successful with the election, Weber says in an interview Polish media Polska Times.
