The Brazilian state prosecutor has formally charged President Michel Temer with bribery. Late Monday evening, a indictment was filed at Brazil's supreme court for a case in which the president has allegedly accepted bribes of half a million Brazilian real (EUR 135,000) in bribes from businessman Joesley Batista, report several media, including O Globo (Portuguese).
The specific charge concerns gas deliveries and a power plant owned by the company J&F, which is controlled by the Batista family. The family has its core business in one of the world's largest meat producers JBS. Allegedly, the bribe was intended to secure deliveries to the power plant Mário Covas from the state-owned oil company Petrobras. The gas contract was canceled earlier this month after J&F admitted to paying out bribes.
