Facebook buys foreign electricity for major data center in Denmark
Norwegian wind turbines will cover the huge energy consumption for Facebook's upcoming data centre in Denmark. This could impact the Danish CO2 bill by 2020, says a professor, who calls Facebook's power purchase agreement in Norway a "big problem for Denmark."
When Facebook fires up its data center in Odense, Denmark in two years, the power will be supplied by Norwegian turbines. In a press release, the US IT giant has entered a long-term PPA with Sweden's Vattenfall to receive 100 percent of production from three Norwegian wind projects with a total 294 MW capacity.
