Industry giant GE risks fine to escape French job promises

If US industry giant General Electric does not uphold a former promise to create new jobs in France before the end of the year, it could be slapped with a huge fine.

When General  Electric took over the energy division of French utility Alstom in 2014, the industry giant also promised to create 1,000 new French jobs before the end of the year. However, by the end of April, only 323 new jobs had been created, said French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire according to BBC News last week.
