New York's first offshore wind farm could wind up 1.2 GW

One of the five potential developers in New York's first offshore tender round has held back their bid, while the remaining four have put forth a range of bids on the first stage of the state's planned 9 GW.

The first offshore wind tender in New York is technically for 800 MW. The state, which raised its target for the technology to 9 GW in 2035 one month ago, has long indicated that this is not necessarily the limit. Vineyard Wind seems to have taken note, submitting a bid for 1,200 MW on its Liberty Wind Project with Avangrid and CIP before last Friday's deadline, the developer announced.
