After seven years backing R&D, Google's parent company, Alphabet, withdraws its support for technology developer Makani's wind energy kite concept. Another investor, Shell, considers its options.

Google's parent company, Alphabet, is pulling its investment out of novel wind energy developer Makani's kite turbine concept, writes the latter's Chief Executive Fort Felker in a blog post.
