Texan blackout cost wind farms USD 4.2bn

A power price of USD 9,000 per MWh for nine days during February in Texas proved costly for wind farms that shut down due to cold weather, shows a new report by consultancy Arcvera.

When the winter winds hit Texas like a hammer and shut down the power grid, blacking out large parts of the state from Feb. 10 to 19, not a long time went by before blame was laid on the more than 30 GW in wind turbines spinning in the Lone Star State.
