Ireland fast-tracks seven offshore wind farms

The Irish Minister of Energy invites Statkraft, Fred. Olsen and a string of other developers to submit project applications with a view to installing 3GW by 2027.

In five years' time, the first gigawatt of offshore wind in Ireland could come online. This is at least the Irish government's ambition with the launch of the application process for offshore wind licenses known as Maritime Area Consents. This enables Irish Energy Minister Eamon Ryan to award ad-hoc licenses to developers meeting relevant assessment criteria with the first projects expected to be approved in the second half of the year.
