Danish power company Ørsted’s North American business and 23 other companies prequalify for bidding on floating wind projects offshore California.

These will be sited in the Humboldt Wind Energy Area and Morro Bay Wind Energy Area, reports Offshorewind.biz.

The areas on tender have room for 4.5GW in offshore wind capacity set to be exclusively sourced from floating turbines as these are well-suited to the US pacific coast.

Earlier in May, the California Energy Commission announced a preliminary target of installing 3GW in offshore wind energy ahead of 2030 off the state’s coast, in addition to a final goal of up to 15GW by 2045.
