New report: Wind now trumps coal throughout the EU

With the expansion of 12 gigawatts in 2016, wind power is now the second-largest source of electricity in the EU. However, political instability and dysfunctional markets could slow things down, sounds a warning.

By the end of 2016, wind capacity in the EU reached 153.7 GW marking historic development. It means that 16.7 percent of the European Union's capacity is now wind, which just barely brings the renewable energy source up to the position of second-most used, ahead of coal which makes up 16.5 percent with capacity of 152 GW.
