Vattenfall exploring options for 2.8GW nuclear additions to Ringhals plant

The Swedish utility has applied for permission to carry out preliminary studies of setting up small atomic reactors near nuclear plant Ringhals, however not entailing conventional, earlier generation fission facilities.

Wednesday, Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet reported quite the revelation that Vattenfall is seeking approval to build new nuclear reactors with combined capacity of 2.8GW on site at the old Ringhals atomic plant – a story falling well in line with both the Swedish government’s stated aims to extend domestic nuclear power as well as the utility’s disclosures.
