Kriegers Flak, which is scheduled to be operational in 2022, will not only become Denmark's largest offshore wind farm with the capacity to supply sustainable electricity to approximately 600,000 Danish homes – or about 20 percent of all homes in Denmark. The farm will also be Denmark's cheapest offshore wind farm with a price of DKK 0.372 (EUR 0.049) per kilowatt-hour, according to the Danish Ministry of Energy, Utilities and Climate. The winner of the tender was Sweden's Vattenfall.
"This is very good news. Not just for us, but for all of Denmark. First and foremost, Danish consumers and businesses will now be one step closer to a fossil-free future in a cost-efficient way. And at the same time, the construction of this large wind park in the Baltic will open up for new, exciting opportunities for the highly competent Danish wind turbine industry – an important exhibition showcase for the utmost modern technology in coming years," says Ole Bigum Nielsen, regional director of Vattenfall Denmark.
