
For Finnish utility Fortum and Danish district heating utility Fjernvarme Fyn, developing sustainable fuels is just one aspect of the large-scale plans to capture half a million tonnes of CO2 from two waste disposal facilities on the island of Funen by 2030.
In the long term, the captured CO2 will become far more valuable as an ingredient in new forms of materials like plastics, says Kalle Saarimaa, vice president, Business Area Recycling & Waste, at Fortum.
