Maersk signs yet another sourcing deal for green methanol
A.P. Møller-Mærsk has entered yet another partnership formed to ensure supply for renewable methanol to fuel the group’s newly ordered ships, Maersk informs in a press statement.
The Danish shipping company has signed a letter of intent with US-based SunGas Renewables Inc., which plans to build multiple production facilities in its domestic market to provide the alternative marine fuel to Maersk’s vessels made to sail on methanol. The first plant will expectedly commission in 2026 with estimated annual output of 390,000 tonnes.
Maersk is planning to take the full production volume of fuel made at the facilities.
This agreement marks the shipping major’s ninth deal signed to ensure production of renewable methanol.
Other partnerships has been made with Ørsted, Carbon Sink, CIMC ENRIC, Debo, European Energy, Green Technology Bank, Proman og Wastefuel.
