Maersk Drilling, Maersk group's oil drilling subsidiary, has made an agreement to sell offshore rig Mærsk Giant to an Australian company working in the oil and gas industry, informed Maersk Drilling in an announcement Friday afternoon.
Besides the fact that the sale is expected to be complete within the current year, the announcement does not reveal much regarding the sale, including sales price. Maersk Drilling has owned Mærsk Giant since 1986 and it is currently stacked in Esbjerg, Denmark.
"The sale is part of our fleet optimization in line with our strategic priority of maintaining a fleet of modern, high-quality assets. Given the limited prospects for Mærsk Giant, we believe a sale creates the highest shareholder value," says Jesper Ridder Olsen, CFO at Maersk Drilling, in the announcement.
