A tanker vessel owned by Frontline has been attacked in the waters off Fujairah, United Arab Emirates, in the Gulf of Oman, report several media. Industry sources confirm the incident to EnergyWatch's sister media ShippingWatch.

The vessel – 110,000 dead weight tons tanker ship Front Altair, built in 2016 – was traveling to Japan with a cargo of naphtha. The crew of the Frontline vessel has been brought to shore by the Iranian navy, sources tell ShippingWatch. According to other media reports, the US navy has picked up the crews of the two ships.

The Frontline vessel is currently on fire, reports Bloomberg.

Another vessel, tanker Kokuka Courageous, flagged in Panama and owned by Japanese shipping company Kokuka Sangyo, and which was sailing to Singapore with a cargo of methanol, was also reported to be damaged off the coast of Fujairah, according the media.

Frontline confirms to Norwegian media VG that the company's ship is involved in an "incident" and that it is currently on fire.

"I can inform that all 23 people on board are safe. They have been transferred to another ship nearby," says a spokesperson for the tanker shipping company to VG.

He adds that the crew members are from Russia, Georgia and the Philippines.

The alleged attack comes a month after four tanker vessels were sabotaged in the same waters, allegedly by mines. A report submitted to the UN Security Council by Saudi Arabia, Norway and the United Arab Emirates earlier in June concluded that the attacks were most likely conducted by a state actor, reported Reuters.

"While investigations are still ongoing, these facts are strong indications that the four attacks were part of a sophisticated and coordinated operation carried out by an actor with significant operational capacity, most likely a state actor," noted the report.
