The corona crisis has been difficult for Equinor. The Norwegian oil company has, for instance, cut this year's investments, been impacted by several cases of Covid-19 infection and has informed of significant long-term effects related to the pandemic.

Although on Monday, the oil giant received a piece of welcome, forward-looking news. Amid many dire announcements, the company reveals that its Troll B rig, which has recovered more than 1 billion barrels of crude throughout the years, can maintain operations for another decade.

National authorities have granted Equinor permission to extend the field's life cycle until 2023. The field's license was otherwise set to expire in September this year.

The agreement also pertains to relative pipelines, Equinor says.

Troll B began to extract oil in 1995.
