LNG import leader grinds to a halt

Japan's position as the world's largest LNG importer was already under increased pressure prior to the corona crisis. Now, utilities project it will be some time before gas demand in Japan returns to normal.

Japan is the world's largest importer of liquefied natural gas, LNG. But the addition of the corona crisis to an already well-filled gas stockpile following a mild winter has curbed its spread. In April, import declined from 244.2 million cubic meters per day to 228.
