Total withstands crisis with profit near USD 900m

The French oil giant stands out among major industry players with a solid profit in the fourth quarter. However, the coronavirus and oil price crises turned Total's overall 2020 into a year the company would rather forget. Now it mulls a name change.

While Big Oil colleagues Shell, Exxon Mobil and Chevron incurred losses in the fourth quarter and British BP booked a slight profit, France's Total did significantly better toward the end of 2020, as shown by the oil company's fiscal report issued Tuesday morning CET.
