Last year’s high natural gas prices could linger well into 2022 to due to unusually high demand. According to think tank Europe, the situation should be used to expedite the green transition, reports Danish business daily Børsen.

”If we are clever, the high gas prices could be used to take long strides in climate change mitigation. Skeptical countries such as Poland will be able to see that it’s about European sovereignty – not only saving the planet,” says Anders Overvad, chief analyst at the think tank, to the media.

He adds that cheap gas has hitherto been seen as a transition fuel for helping decarbonization get underway, but that situation has now changed for Europe.
