Due to the tense energy situation in Europe at present, Norway should search for more oil and gas on the Norwegian continental shelf, state Norway's Conservative Party and the right-wing Progress Party. They argue that Norway should strive to contribute to strengthening supply security in Europe and bypassing Russia.

"There's of course fears around Europe that Russia will decrease gas. We must set out ambitions to contribute to supply security in Russia," says member of parliament for the Conservative Party Ove Trellevik to news agency NTB.

Following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, reliance on Russian gas has become a hot topic. In particular, the EU has turned towards other nations that could help to ensure supply security – including Norway.

In Denmark, the situation has motivated several politicians to push for a faster reopening of the Tyra field, which has been shut down for reconstruction since 2019. Tyra was slated for reopening this summer, but Covid-19-related challenges have delayed the project by just under a year.

However, expediting the Tyra reopening is out of the question, explained the Danish Ministry of Climate, Energy and Utilities due to the fact that critical infrastructure in the shape of a processing platform has yet to arrive from Indonesia.
