Estonia pushes for gas embargo against Russia

It’s all well and proper to ban oil imports from Russia, but the EU should ban gas as well, says Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas.

It won’t happen anytime soon. But the EU should also impose a ban on Russian gas, says Prime Minister of Estonia Kaja Kallas.

”I think that the gas has to be in the seventh package but I’m a realist as well, I don’t think it will be there,” says Kaja Kallas in connection with the EU summit in Brussels, according to Norwegian media E24.

The announcement comes against the backdrop of the EU agreeing on a ban against Russian oil – with oil supplies through pipelines being the exemption.

On Monday, it emerged that Russia has opted to no longer supply gas to the Netherlands because the Dutch rejected the Russian demand to pay for gas in rubles. The same happened in Denmark with utility Ørsted no longer receiving gas from Gazprom by Wednesday.
