Equinor no longer has any activities in Russia, the Norwegian oil company informs in a statement Friday, thereby keeping its word from February to leave the market due to the invasion of Ukraine.

This marks the first instance of an international oil and gas outfit carrying out a prompt withdrawal from the Russian market.

Doing so now pressures peers like TotalEnergies and ExxonMobil.

Reacting to Russia’s invasion on Feb. 24, the Norwegian group called the situation untenable.

Back in March, Equinor vowed to quit dealing in Russian crude, having since exited a joint venture with state-owned Rosneft.

Equinor’s final action to complete the exit was divesting interest in oil field Arctic Kharyaga, run by Russia’s Zarubezhneft. TotalEnergies, however, remains on board as a project partner.
