Though it is already a large player in the Kazakh energy market, French oil and gas supermajor TotalEnergies is set to expand with a large intergovernmental wind energy project consisting of 200 wind turbines with capacity of 1GW once in full operation, the company reports in a press release.
Known as Mirny, the wind project will be developed in collaboration with Samruk-Kazyna and KazMunayGas, and includes a 600MWh battery storage system.
At the same time, TotalEnergies has sold its affiliate Total E&P Dunga GmbH to Kazakh company Oriental Sunrise Corp Ltd at a price of USD 330m. The affiliate holds a 60% operating interest in the Dunga oil field in Kazakhstan, corresponding to production of approx. 7,400 barrels of oil equivalent per day.
Chief Executive Officer of TotalEnergies Patrick Pouyanné says that the agreements arise from the company’s energy transition strategy.
”TotalEnergies is fully committed to providing its expertise and know-how to develop Kazakhstan’s natural resources, as we are doing as partner of the giant Kashagan field,” Pouyanné says in the release.
Through subsidiary Total Eren, TotalEnergies already has two solar power plants in Kazakhstan with a capacity of 128MW.
