The decommissioning of the Ravn field, located in the Danish part of the North Sea, is now becoming a reality.

The Danish Energy Agency has approved the decommissioning of the oil and gas field by Wintershall Nordzee, a subsidiary of Wintershall Dea. This means that the extraction of oil and gas will be stopped, the pipelines and supply lines will be disconnected and the platform will be removed, a press release from the Danish Energy Agency states.

Danish history is being written. This is the first time that an oil and gas field has been decommissioned on Danish soil. The Ravn field is located 245 km off the west coast of Denmark.

The Ravn field is self-operated and has been in production since 2017. Wintershall has previously explored the possibility of expanding the field, which produced 90,000 cubic meters of oil in 2018 and 2019, but dropped to 18,000 cubic meters in 2020.

However, in December 2021, Wintershall announced that it would cease all activities at the Ravn field.

The decommissioning of the jacket and platform is expected to begin in June 2024 and will be completed in September of the same year.
