The licensees of the Eldfisk field, operated by ConocoPhillips Skandinavia AS, have now produced first oil from the Eldfisk Nord project, located in the Ekofisk area of the North Sea.

Production of the oil and gas resources from the new development project will start a few weeks earlier than planned, the operator announced Monday morning. In December 2022, the Norwegian authorities approved the plan for development and operation for Eldfisk North and production was originally scheduled to start at the end of 2024’s second quarter.

Effective collaboration across the companies has made it possible to produce oil earlier.

”Solid and productive collaboration between our employees, contractors and partners has contributed to a good safety record with zero injuries and another successful project delivered ahead of schedule,” says Steinar Våge, ConocoPhillips’ regional vice president for Europe, Middle East and North Africa.

The Eldfisk Nord project consists of three seabed templates, each with six wells, located approximately 7 kilometers from Eldfisk. The plan for development and operation includes drilling up to 14 wells, of which nine are production wells and the other five are water injection wells.

The Eldfisk Nord project will utilize the available capacity for processing and transportation at Eldfisk 2/7 S, using the existing infrastructure in the Ekofisk area.

The total resource potential is in the range of 50-90 million barrels of oil equivalent, while the total investment is estimated at almost NOK 13bn (EUR 1.1bn), which takes into account cost development for extended drilling time, inflation and exchange rates.

The Eldfisk Nord project is located in PL 018 and the licensees are TotalEnergies EP Norge AS (39.896%), ConocoPhillips Skandinavia AS (35.112%), Vår Energi ASA (12.388%), Sval Energi AS (7.604%) and Petoro AS (5.000%).
