Together with the US company Rondo Energy, Greenlab will establish a large-scale thermal battery that will eliminate the Danish industrial park’s consumption of natural gas.

The thermal battery has a capacity of 100MWh and will be the first in the world to be connected directly to a solar and wind farm, which in this case has a capacity of 84MW, Greenlab writes in a press release.

”The collaboration with Rondo marks a crucial step in our journey towards a sustainable and integrated energy system at Greenlab, and we are proud to be chosen as the European showcase for Rondo, backed by Bill Gates’ company Breakthrough Energy,” says Greenlab CEO Christopher Sorensen.

The thermal battery will initially supply Greenlab’s biogas plant, which will reduce CO2 emissions by up to 80% depending on price fluctuations in the gas and electricity markets.

The plant is expected to be operational by mid 2025.
