Hinkley reignites grid feud worth billions of pounds

National Grid is disappointed over the decision from the UK Office of Gas and Electricity Markets (Ofgem) that the grid upgrade for the nuclear power plant must be subject to "proxy competition", which Ofgem says will save consumers more than GBP 100 million.

The price of Hinkley Point C has been the subject of major criticism for years now. However, not only the costs of the nuclear power plant itself are causing problems, the same is true of the needed electricity grid upgrade, which must handle the plant's planned 3,260 MW capacity.
