Norway issues oil license at offshore wind site

Norway's government has granted an oil exploration license at the same site at which Equinor is planning to invest a major sum in establishing a floating offshore wind farm. Authorities deny having made a mistake.

In the week before last, the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) issued the largest allocation of oil exploration licenses to date. A whopping 83 licenses for prospecting for further oil and gas deposits on the Norwegian Continental Shelf were distributed to a handful of companies.
