China airs cutting coal capacity by 33 percent

Several coal-fired power plants should be decommissioned, suggests China, which aims to rescue the economies of five utilities. Implementing the measure would slash coal consumption by up to one third in 2021.

The underperforming economies of five utilities in China could prompt a move to cut coal-fired capacity by up to 33 percent during the next few years, reports Reuters, which has seen a document confirming as much. Several sources familiar with the matter reportedly echo the information.
