Kriegers Flak CGS escapes open power market requirement

The EU exempts Kriegers Flak CGS from a requirement that TSOs say would be impossible to meet. Implementing bidding zones may prevent Denmark's upcoming energy islands from landing in the same gray area, according to Danish TSO Energinet.

For many years, Denmark has been struggling to open up electricity borders. While it's still difficult to get Sweden on board with allowing Danish energy despite the neighbor's best efforts, 2018 saw Germany recognizing the EU Commission's demand that at least 70 percent of the cable connections between two member states must be technically open. Now, Danish transmission system operator Energinet celebrates the fact that the requirement is waived for the most recent cross-border connection.
