Shipping CEO wants CO2 tax reinvested in sustainable fuels

German container carrier Hapag-Lloyd supports the implementation of a CO2 tax on fossil fuels, and wants to see proceeds reinvested in initiatives that can accelerate the transition to sustainable fuels, says CEO Rolf Habben Jansen to EnergyWatch's sister media, ShippingWatch.

The CEO of the fifth-largest container carrier, German Hapag-Lloyd, concurs with other major carriers and shipping associations that the shipping industry should be taxed on the use of fossil fuels to achieve the target of halving emissions by 2050.
