”Very complicated” to dictate new benchmarks for gas

The EU Commission is working on a new benchmark for gas prices in Europe – perhaps even several. Gas expert agrees that having multiple benchmarks is a fine idea but questions whether such a move can be dictated top-down.

”Today our gas market has changed dramatically: from pipeline mainly to increasing amounts of LNG. But the benchmark used in the gas market – the TTF – has not adapted. This is why the Commission will work on establishing a more representative benchmark.”
