German gas storage group INES is optimistic about this winter and future, writes Reuters after having taken part in the group’s monthly statistics presentation.

Mild January weather, lower demand and sufficient inventories ensure that Germany will make it through the winter, but managing director Sebastian Bleschke is also optimistic looking further ahead.

However, the optimism hinges on continued import flows of LNG to keep inventories filled, which is why the country is due to take online six floating storage and regasification units (FSRUs) by the end of 2023.

According to INES, a refilling level of 100% could be possible on October 1.

The group, which has RWE among its members, is set to unveil details on winter 2023/24 supplies in April.
