European Parliament votes to include shipping in bloc quota scheme

From 2024, carriers will have to pay for their CO₂ emissions, following the landslide approval of a new bill in the European Parliament. Shipping will also receive a new climate fund.

Shipping will be part of the EU’s system for trade with CO₂ quotas, the Emission Trading System (ETS), once we hit 2024.
