Germany set new onshore wind record in 2017

While more than 5 GW onshore wind were installed last year, the future remains uncertain due to the new tender system where 97 percent of the winning projects are still lacking approval.

As expected, 2017 was a fierce year for German onshore wind. Overall, 5,333 MW were installed across 1,792 turbines, which including the 387 dismantled turbines means a grid expansion of 4,866 MW. Total German capacity at the turn of the year was thus 50 GW and came to exactly 50,777 MW, states industry organization BWE.
