A newly signed agreement between Denmark and New York means that New Yorkers will draw from Danish experience in regulation of offshore wind power.

Earlier today, the Danish Ministry of Energy, Utilities and Climate says that they have selected four locations for the next offshore windfarm. However, this is far from Denmark's first roadshow, so to speak. Denmark already has a great track record in putting offshore wind farms out to tender, and the lists include Anholt offshore windfarm, Horns Rev I and II and Kriegers Flak. This is the expertise and experience that New Yorkers intend to draw upon.

"New York State is eager to learn how we made offshore wind power cheaper, how we outline the tenders, and how we perform assessments before we put windfarms out to tender," says Lars Chr. Lilleholt, Danish minster of climate, and adds:

"They are very interested in knowing how we succeeded in cutting the price in half from 15 to 16."

The minister points out the fact that Andrew Cuomo, Governor of New York has an ambitious target of installing 2.4 GW offshore wind by 2030.

"This is equivalent to supplying 1.2 million homes with wind power. This is a major step, also in terms of expanding offshore wind in the US," says Lars Chr. Lilleholt.

Why is it beneficial for Denmark to sign this agreement?

"It's crucial for Denmark. We want to disseminate offshore wind. We have a long array of companies operating within offshore wind which have come far in the world. The more offshore wind, the bigger the chance of Danish companies bidding for these tenders," says the minister of energy.
