Gas grid offers potential green power solution

A new project led by Danish TSO Energinet shows that injecting existing gas grids with a certain volume of hydrogen can be done without altering existing infrastructure. The project's results indicate that adding a degree of electrolysis-sourced hydrogen is a feasible storage method and can be utilized for power-to-gas systems, thereby in turn contributing to electricity supply.

Surplus wind and solar power can be converted into hydrogen via electrolysis and stored in natural gas infrastructure – a technology called power-to-gas. It now seems that hydrogen can be added to natural gas grids with minimal system adaption, show results from a project led by Danish transmission system operator Energinet.
