Danish energy islands to raise offshore wind price by EUR 1bn

An in-depth review of Denmark's sea regions reveals that conventional offshore wind farms would be up to one fourth cheaper than energy islands. Ørsted's preferred model ends up both the most expensive and least well-suited.

With big visions come big expenses. Last month, the Danish government announced its plan to, rather than erect the two planned offshore wind farms of the latest energy deal, establish two energy islands in 2030. However, this isn't just a ground-breaking new concept that must be realized before anyone suspected it – it's also a far more expensive model.
