SSE makes decision on 443 MW wind farm

While announcing an investment budget of GBP 7 billion in green energy until 2025, SSE makes its investment decision on a major Scottish wind farm on firm ground in the North Sea.

Like the Scottish mentality, power consumption on the Shetland Islands is relatively modest. The approximately 23,000 inhabitants on the islands in the North Sea to the northeast of mainland Scotland have a consumption of around 11-48 MW, which is more than covered by both the old 67 MW diesel plant by the main town of Lerwick and by the 100 MW gas power plant near the oil terminal in Sullom Voe. Add to that a couple of wind turbines here and there.
