Partners Group, Shell, Eneco, Diamond Generating Europe and Van Oord can all begin to lick their lips. These companies form the Blauwwind consortium, backing the now-generating offshore wind farm, Borssele 3+4.

First power from the facility has started to flow into the Dutch grid and out to the Netherlands' rate payers.

Despite generating some electricity, the project is not yet complete. Thus far, only 36 out of 77 model V174-9.5 MW units made by MHI Vestas are operational.

Installation work began in late May this year, and the wind farm is slated for full commissioning this coming October, with construction advancing at a projected net-installation rate of roughly 1 turbine per day.

"With the Borssele III/IV offshore wind project now online and delivering electricity to the grid, Dutch consumers can be certain they are moving towards a clean energy future," writes MHI Vestas Project Director Laurens van Pijkeren in a statement.

With its 731.5 MW, the facility will be capable of powering around 825,000 households in the Netherlands, corresponding to approximately 2.3 percent of country's total demand.

"Keeping a project of this scale and complexity on track in these challenging times can only be managed through good collaboration and flexibility. The delivery of first power has been achieved in close collaboration with partners Van Oord, MHI Vestas and TenneT, who has provided grid readiness one month ahead of time," writes Blauwwind Project Director and Chief Executive Roeland Borsboom.

Beyond delivery, installation and commissioning, MHI Vestas has also secured a 15-year operations and maintenance service agreement for the offshore wind farm.
