Complaints board withdraws plan for largest Danish onshore wind farm

The environmental impact assessment on Eurowind's major project Thorup-Sletten flunks nearly a year after the farm entered operation. Developer says it won't be necessary to turn off the turbines, though mayor wouldn't rule out such a consequence.

Developer Eurowind must return to the drawing board. The Danish complaints board for construction planning decided on Tuesday that the environmental impact assessment (EIA) on wind farm Thorup-Sletten in several areas lacks adequate illumination of the potential consequences for avian life in a nearby Natura 2000 area. The board therefore rescinds the EIA and the local construction plans in Northern municipalities Jammerbugt and Vesthimmerland, where the wind farm is located.
