Wind Denmark says new EU target requires tripled wind build-out

If the EU is to achieve 40 percent renewable power in its energy mix by 2030, wind turbines totaling 27GW must be installed each year. Last year saw only 10.5GW, and sector lobby Wind Denmark worries that member nations' framework conditions make the goal difficult to achieve in time.

Prior to yesterday's launch of the EU's Fit for 55 legislative package, Danish Climate, Energy and Utilities Minister Dan Jørgensen had roamed Brussels advocating that Europe's target for renewable energy generation be raised from the current 32 to 45 percent.
